Important Vocabulary
Arithmetic Sequence-
A pattern with repeated addition or subtraction.
Ex: 0,12,24,36,48,60....
You add 12 to get to the next number in the pattern.

Geometric Sequence-
A pattern with repeated multiplication.
Ex: 2,4,8,16,32....
you multiply by 2 every time. (x2)

Recursive Rule-
A written statement that tells how you get from the last number in the pattern to the next.
Ex: 0,12,24,36,48,60....
recursive rule= +12

Explicit Rule-
An expression that represents each set of point in the pattern.
Ex: 0,12,24,36,48,60....
explicit rule= a+b(n-1)
a=starting number (0)
b=recursive rule (+12)

Variable-A letter that represents a number in a mathematical equation
Ex: x+3 x=variable

Distributive property-
multiply the outside number with a term in side the pattern

Ex: 4(x+3)
4x+12

Big Ideas
One of the big ideas in this unit would have to be the Arithmetic Sequence and Geometric Sequence
because the Arithmetic and Geometric sequence provided a formula that allows the student or teacher
or the student work or figure out answer faster for patterns.Also another big idea in this unit is the Explicit
rule because, once you figure out the explicit rule you can get any number in the pattern.
